Many use France as an example of how nuclear power might save us. It has 56 reactors. It’s government owned and run, because no business will touch it with a stick, it’s in astronomical debt. And estimates just of costs of repairs of existing nuclear reactors there is over $100 billion. And they need to build more, which will be at least that much again. Plus de-commission old ones, which is about that much again. To show how the ‘debate’ in Oz is entirely political, we have the small-government opposition promoting this, which would lead to a Soviet-era type centralised State industry requiring vast amounts of public spending. They’re not serious, they’re just trying to win votes by starting an argument. None of it adds up, it’s delusional.
