A huge proportion of the world's houses are either badly maintained or not maintained at all. If people move out of a house it quickly falls apart, like this one. Technologies are I think our most social things. You can name any technology, and not only will it need to be (socially) maintained, but the 'function' it carries out will be 100% social as well. Technologies are society's glue, the raw material engineers use is more social than it is 'technical'.
