Drove the new M8 yesterday. It was very pleasant, freeway driving all the way from Penrith to the Eastern suburbs. The thing with these mega road projects though is that they ignore that what creates traffic is roads. The bigger the road, the bigger the traffic. Supply creates demand. The same thing happens with dams and water. Building bigger dams (more supply) creates a greater demand for water. It’s worse than a zero sum game. The gains are always temporary.
