Skilled politicians are like reverse cycle air con I think. Let's say Right = cold and Left = hot. Rather than trying to turn hot into cold or cold into hot, by heating or cooling, a heat pump just shifts the heat from one place to another as needed. That's what skilled politicians do, they don't change Lefties into Righties or vice versa, they let people keep their Left or Right preference, but find ways to get them to vote the other way at the same time. Some try to say the answer is 'the middle'. Try finding the point where hot turns into cold or cold into hot and you'll see why that approach is doomed. Always.
