It’s an international embarrassment that the LNP went to COP28 and advocated for Australia to do nothing, and just wait a decade or more for nuclear power to be built. Reactors that don’t even exist, that nobody wants in their community, and which would cost astronomical amounts of money if they did exist. Producing waste nobody will want to store. Our existing coal plants are falling apart in the meantime, so they’d have to build new ones too, at taxpayers’ expense, costing tens of billions and taking years. All to provide power that is dirty and much more expensive, while the cheapest power in human history is already being rolled out at record speed right now, and is still getting cheaper. There isn’t a better example of how dumb popularity-based politics makes a society.
