Thanks to Ed for this. The oceans are masking just how bad global warming is. They’ve absorbed over 90% of the extra heat we’ve produced by burning astronomical amounts of carbon-based fuels. The amount of heat they’ve absorbed is the equivalent of 5 Hiroshima atomic bombs exploding every SECOND, since 1990. That’s over 1 BILLION atomic bombs worth of heat. We’re already screwed, but there are signs the oceans have already lost the capacity to absorb more and are releasing this heat back into the atmosphere. We’ll be literally incinerated. Experts say even with urgent emergency action we’ll be lucky to survive. The past 30 years of climate blocking may be our extinction event, just as blocking Covid action is killing millions. It’s the same people doing it.
