Monks once saved civilisation. In the Dark Ages their monasteries were what kept the ideas that are actually what we call civilisation alive. They were the only ones who kept the knowledge of basic things like agriculture and metallurgy. Ideas ARE society. What will today’s monasteries be? It sadly is unlikely to be universities, their descendants. They’re too busy ‘serving customers’.
