We’ve had years of hot air about how coal-fired electricty is cheaper for consumers. The reason our electricty prices are currently so high is the price of coal, which became prohibitively expensive. Just one more reason to get rid of it. Renewables can supply the grid with free power (actually so cheap they pay you to use it now, negative prices), which is why in this decade we should see power prices drop to historically low levels. Eventually it should be like landline phone calls, effectively free.
