Society's deep tectonic plates. It occurred to me yesterday that most of the modern conservative agenda, of small government and lower taxes, is actually driven by the same people who opposed the separation of church and State. It's that same agenda, centuries-old, resurfacing in a modern form. Dressed up in economic terms, but actually the same religious folk continuing to try to destroy secular society by undermining the State. And it's their right to try, there's lots wrong with secularism too. But we have to be able to see it as what's actually going on.
