“Only very few trans-kids still want to transition by the time they are adults. Instead, they generally turn out to be regular gay or lesbian folks. The exact number varies by study, but roughly 60–90% of trans-kids turn out no longer to be trans by adulthood.” Adds weight to those who say transgender is actually often a movement to ‘trans the gay away’ i.e. disguised homophobia. Also adds to my argument that we’ve taken highly fluid and healthy adolescent play over gender roles and essentialised it in tragic ways, through social media activism. Turned it into just one more identity team sport, which hardens ordinary social activity into rigid identities that become a battle for status. Adolescents are highly suggestible and fluid in their desires, forging adult identities. Activists have targeted that. Just one more example of social media fucking over societies.
