Before Christmas Australia may cap the price of coal, to keep electricity prices down. Coal and gas companies are making huge windfall profits on the back of exorbitant international prices. This could be very bad news for Lithgow, we’ll have to wait and see how much the continued operation of the coal mines here was dependent on those windfall profits. It’s of course very good news for Australians more generally, but shows the danger Lithgow faces in coming years.
