Same story, the world over. When indigenous peoples are displaced, they don't say 'hey, that's my piece of harbourside property, I'm negatively gearing it'. They say 'we are the land'. The land is an integrated part of their identity. They understand 'place'. This book traces what always happens next. Colonisers come along, draw MAPS of the land, and apportion it as 'property'. We are the map people, who destroy landscapes because to us they're just real estate, or 'the environment'. Our agency and identity has no component of the landscapes we live in included within it. They're just places to 'see', sightseeing. Tourists in our own countries, and everybody else's.
