Like most countries, Australia's peak electricity usage is at dinner time every night, around 6pm. About 10 gigawatts of electricity. To give some perspective for how many solar panels would be needed to generate that, if every household in Australia had only 1kW of solar panels, we would generate that much electricity. In reality a house with solar panels on average has 6-10 times as many panels as that, nobody would even bother with a 1kW system, it's tiny. So it's easy to cover the load, and that doesn't even include solar farms and panels on businesses. For use 'when the sun doesn't shine', for much of the rest of the day the system needs only a fraction of that energy, which can all be stored.
