Until 1984, foreign ships containing suspected carriers of infectious disease had to disembark passengers at Sydney's quarantine station, seen here on North Head. Quarantine facilities were sold off or closed down at that time. Now we use hotels for quarantine, the same hotels who normally take the bulk of travellers. As Camus said, there will never be freedom while there are plagues. They will never be over, a fully 'open' world is a dream only of business people who want easy traffic for their goods and money.
