25 March

The biggest story in the world yesterday, that was barely reported. PNG turned off social media. It’s had enough of these platforms trashing its society. But just wait, it won’t last. Ordinary people and businesses there are so addicted to Facebook, they’ll demand it back. That’s what ‘enshittification’ means, Cory Doctorow’s idea. These platforms hijack all human groups, and transform them into warring gangs. That fighting generates revenue. That’s why everybody is now arguing about everything. Every single public issue is now a war between social media teams, including things people didn’t even know about before, let alone care about. Like energy. Just look, you can’t miss it. That’s the social media business model, destroying your world.
