Kidult framings are so pervasive. For older adults, the problem often isn’t not having friends. The problem is not having actual meaningful social connection to the life of the society. A purpose, being useful to something and somebody, being able to use your accumulated experience in meaningful ways to shape the society you’re living in. In kidult culture, the old are expected to just retire and go on tourism holidays. A permanent gap year. There are no ‘elders’ shaping a kidult society. No meaningful social roles. They feel not lonely, but irrelevant, ignored, invisible.
