The collapse of the dollar is another thing driving petrol and diesel prices sky-high. We have to buy all of our petrol and diesel from overseas, and a falling dollar makes it massively more expensive. So tell me again why EVs, which we would power completely from our own homegrown energy, are a bad idea? They have more grunt, more torque, much faster acceleration. They run silently, and they don’t pollute the air. ‘Filling’ them costs only a fraction what petrol and diesel costs. They require virtually no maintenance or servicing, and at end of life can be almost completely recycled to make another EV. The metals and minerals needed to make them are abundant in Australia too, and would make us stinking rich. And $50 billion of our money every year would stay onshore, and not end up in the bank accounts of Texan and Arab oil billionaires.
