The team sports of social media can achieve such a level of righteousness, that the team becomes a mob. People call this 'changing the world'. Really it's just being a mob. Looting, arson, vandalism. Some even gun CEOs down in the street, because the righteous cause apparently justified it. The Simpsons did a whole episode on this sort of behaviour. Many who watched it and laughed are now part of the anti-Tesla mob, went in one ear and straight out the other. It's disingenuous to say only some take it this far. It's all the one populist movement. This is how populism always ends. Bullies always have a big 'innocent' audience circling the beat up, cheering them on. It's why they do it.
