Next stage here at home of driving energy costs down will be replacement of all windows and doors with double-glazed uPVC versions. The windows in Australian homes have traditionally been rubbish, though at least most new builds now have double-glazing. Great not just for controlling heat and cold, but also sound, blocking 80% of noise. uPVC is a fantastic material too, much better insulator than metal frames, also better than wood, and require zero maintenance. Modern double-glazing is also much more secure, with the thick glass, and 5-fold locking mechanism on every window and door. Can also tilt them open.
