Peter Andrews, the genius Australian farmer, sometimes describes how landscape revegetates itself. You can see it here - from my walk to work - how rain and storms have piled soil and plant debris into semi-circular arcs. That creates mini dams behind which more soil and debris gets caught, and soon there's enough there for plants like grass to grow, which stabilizes the mini-dam even further. Then the hollow behind the arc fills up, and eventually you just have smooth grass where there was once nothing. Look down on any piece of grass that's growing wild and you'll see this. You'll even feel it under your feet, as the process gets more than halfway to finished, it will feel a bit undulating under your feet. I post one of these every storm season, love them, the world is amazing, but you have to look.
