Just about every major news outlet ran with this story yesterday. Not one of them thought to check if spider bites actually cause this - they don't. But the story runs so often now that people have come to believe that white-tails do this. No spider does. But there is a good lesson in the story, that we shouldn't be complacent with cleaning wounds, even minor ones. Don't just chuck a band aid on, clean first, povidine is my favourite but my medical friends like @[728961585:2048:Angela Gray] and @[1240225973:2048:Dave Nell Thompson] may have better options.
