Here’s why we need philosophers so badly. (And we don’t get this, in my experience.) Philosophy studies ideas. Ideas are what society is made out of. Whenever society is confused, it always - without exception - means its ideas need work. That’s what philosophers do. They create the founding ideas of society, and then fix them when they get broken. But you don’t mostly see this, it’s like earthquakes - the source is way out of sight, you just feel the effects.
