Why do I dislike social media so much? This table gets to the reason. Civilisation itself only exists because of the control of contagion. Of all forms, not just infections. All of our lives today emerged as a control of some contagion. Uncontrolled contagion is chaos and destruction. No matter the source. And all contagions are connected. Viruses (disease contagion) for example never ‘go viral’. It’s the viral contagion behaviour of humans that spreads them. And look at the outlier. Social media. A contagion amplifier of all forms. The only emergent human institution not there to control contagion but to promote it. A corrosive force dismantling all aspects of society, at their core.
