I do a long commute, about 120km round trip per day. So I tried an experiment. One week I did the whole week in manual control of the car. The next I used cruise control for most of the driving. The result? I used 20% less fuel when using cruise control. If I had adaptive cruise control in my car, the saving would have been even greater. Machines drive and fly much better than humans, in most situations. It’s why when you fly somewhere, 98% of the time you’re in the air, a computer is flying the plane.
