Have you ever been or are you now a manager of people? I think managers are most challenged by their employees' personal lives intersecting with their work roles. Most management advice and theory says a good manager does both, but is that true? What would be wrong with saying an employee's personal life, and their interpersonal relationships with other staff, are none of the manager's business, and if that interrupts their work role, they should think about leaving? While on the face of it that might sound brutal, isn't it actually the deepest respect, to tell staff that their personal lives are their own to deal with?
