Social media transforms everything into rivalry between social groups. Team sports. The most common views on all social issues reduce down to membership of one or other social group, at war with some other social group(s). You can see this when you express a view, and a person immediately tries to catalog you in a group. ‘Oh you’re a Liberal voter…ah you’re a terf…ha, a Greenie!’. Etc. The content of the debate between all of these groups is absolutely irrelevant. They would argue over two flies crawling up a wall. The main game is status, the individuals and groups are fighting for dominant social status.
