Always follow the money. ‘Self-funded retirees’ is an oxymoron, a huge chunk of their wealth is tax concessions, which we all pay for. The political battle of our times is between the old and young, not Left and Right. Wealthy retirees with minimal costs get showered with handouts, while working families with unaffordable mortgages (if they can afford a house over their heads at all) and sky-high energy prices get nothing. Disgusting. “Over 60s will be the big winners from a re-elected Liberal National government, which would extend shopping discounts usually reserved for seniors working less than 20 hours a week to all over 60s from July 1 with a new “Senior Saver Card”. A further 400,000 seniors living in regional areas would also trouser a $250 a year travel card to use on trains and buses under a Nationals $100 million a year bid to secure vulnerable seats. Around 130,000 self-funded retirees would also enjoy $200 energy bill rebates under a Liberal National government.”
