When you paint flowers, you create flowers made of paint. Not a likeness of flowers, but actual flowers, made of paint. If that sounds bizarre, think about how bizarre the idea of a resemblance or likeness is. How would paint ‘look like’ something else? Paint and flowers are different things. If something looks like something else, in some ways it is that something else. They share common properties. Otherwise you have to make up some magical way that a painting can ‘capture’ a likeness. What could be captured? (Another painting by Vera Kober.)
