I guess what makes great artists great is how their works diagnose things. They see into the future. In 1820 Goya saw our world today, where reality has become sport, a fight between opposing sides. Whether we're watching or playing sport, or backing our side in politics, or aligning ourselves with different social groups against other social groups. Notice Goya's real genius here though. The fighters are sinking into the quicksand beneath them. The world is going to swallow both of them. Welcome to climate change, 2019.
