D.H. Lawrence used to say that love has two sides, and ignoring either of them leads to perversion. An embracing, inclusive side, and a side that pushes away, that respects the unknowable in the other. ‘Tough’ love. Perel understands. Tough love is the source of desire. I still think we’re scared of desire, as a society.
