When I talk a lot about Tesla, I often get the ‘Tesla fanboy’ label. Because people who say that have had their lives hijacked by social media, and so now everything in their life is a rivalry between opposing teams. They never even bother trying to understand anything, they just try to figure out what team you’re on. I talk about Tesla a lot because of their engineering, and great engineering is the only thing in history that has given civilisations longevity. If another company does the engineering better, I’ll talk about them instead. Great engineering isn’t just the nuts and bolts. As you can see here in the Car of the Year citation, it’s being able to bring that great tech to the largest number of people too, affordably. It includes a Supercharger network for charging, integrated into the car’s software, and an app that manages everything from access to the car to its integration with solar charging, home battery etc. A fully integrated ecosystem. Tesla’s engineering did all of that. It’s a wonder of the world, despite the CEO having toxic personal views on many things. Who cares. How well do you know the CEO of Woolies, or of your bank or local health district? Many of them are fuckwits. Musk’s genius is that he knows how to allow engineers to change the world. With cars, rockets, satellite broadband, battery storage, robots. Etc.
