My vote for the most important thinker alive. Check him out in this interview, it was through studying Latour (he was also one of the markers on my PhD a couple of decades ago now) that I learned more about the world than in any other way. Latour can help you to see the world as alive, enchanted, timeless and eternal, how machines and technologies are as amazing as dragons and fairies. Our 'modern' world (we have never been modern, Latour says) is as enchanted as at any time in history, and way more interesting than even the weirdest fiction could imagine. I think that's what I learned more than anything else from Bruno - stick to what is real, really let yourself understand the details, and wonders will be revealed to you. Ideals (God, objective truth, spiritualism etc.) are just our way of being lazy and not doing the actual work of understanding the world we live in. All that we want from those ideal things is already right here, in the 'real' world. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/25/magazine/bruno-latour-post-truth-philosopher-science.html
