What can we do when we're told ecosystems are collapsing? We can become 'environmentalists', but then what does that mean? Wrapping the landscape in cotton wool? That doesn't work. We can try to scientifically 'manage' the landscape, but that also doesn't work. We can ignore it and just keep trashing it, which obviously doesn't work either. Notice every solution we come up with gives no real agency to the landscape itself, to the animals, plants, water, rocks, soil etc. Nor to us within that landscape, we're still on the outside, looking in. We're sightseers, tourists in our own landscapes, with no idea how to be a part of them. Agency is the key to unravelling this mystery I think.
