You can see the radio shock jocks here foaming at the mouth about this already, if it were suggested. (Actually some of them think this is what already happens in Australia, that most of the population is apparently already on 'welfare'. But then they're just a bunch of highly overpaid whingers who get paid millions to sit and whinge into a microphone all day. Australians are supposed to hate whingers - it's your patriotic duty people to tell shock jocks to go fuck themselves.) There's lots of very interesting pluses to thinking about this as a serious idea.
