I post about the pandemic a lot because to my mind, it's a true existential threat, not just to some people but to our societies as a whole. We can distract ourselves from it for a while with entertainment, but that won't last. Eventually there comes a day when you have to reckon with it, not just in your actions, but in your thoughts and feelings. Better to start now than wait until it hits you like a garbage truck; pandemics eventually suck away everything else in society, there's no escape. Unfortunately ignoring it also doesn't work as a long-term strategy, or 'being positive' (a pandemic doesn't care one bit how we feel, and how we feel has zero impact on it or us, you can't make feelings happen). Another insight from Camus - humans are never free, because of pandemics. They have the illusion of freedom between pandemics, sometimes that goes on a few decades. It never lasts. We have to get a whole lot better at understanding microbes, one of my passions. WE are microbes, they built us. Our societies need to reflect that.
