I want to use aged care as an example of how political slogans actually kill people. Was having a conversation with a healthcare worker (HCW) who works in aged care. We all know Covid has gone on a killing spree in aged care. The HCW’s beliefs: - Covid is ‘just like the flu’ (false, a slogan) - we can’t stop Covid, just as we can’t stop the flu (false, a slogan) - we need to give old people in aged care ‘autonomy’ to decide whether to take the risk of infection or not (false, a slogan). A HCW with these beliefs is going to go to work and make zero effort to stop anybody getting Covid. It’s not care at all, it’s assisted dying.
