I still remember when dual-cabs were invented, we had a few growing up. The thing about them, which I remember my dad talking about (as a builder) is that they’re not good utes. Trays are small and too deep for a lot of things. But they’re also not great passenger cars, they’re sprung as utes and cabin space isn’t great or very comfortable. They’re like the worst of both worlds. There are maybe only two cars in the top 10 that are good family cars. The big dual cabs and 4WDs in particular are also making roads less safe, they’re much more dangerous in collisions. Our car sales weren’t always like this, family cars used to dominate, year after year. Image and status have maybe taken over from functionality.
