Social media analytics, do we stop and think about how extraordinary it is to be able to now quantify so many desires and beliefs? The subjective/objective divide dissolving. I think this is maths finally achieving its core function - to accelerate the propagation of desire and belief. We use maths to understand patterns, and we want to understand patterns because they allow us to allocate values differently to different things, according to our beliefs and desires. It's sex all the way down, the modern mathematical/technical age is also the most passionate and desiring of all ages; aren't we all noticing that? The world seems a crazy clash of passions right now?
