I try to use images as compressed concepts. As a way of conveying complex ideas at a glance. AI is stunningly good at it. Like this one. While we physically still live in towns and cities, this is actually our culture now. A bewildering avalanche of decontextualised information, leaving people disoriented, exhausted, anxious and often angry. Normally our social networks mediate the information we use in our lives. They filter things, slow them down as they’re absorbed and refracted by tradition. But when those networks are flattened into a social media platform, life becomes a battle for attention and connection, and focused on pure imitation. What I mean by us living inside social media now, social media is not ‘about’ our ‘real lives’. It’s replaced those lives. Most ideas, feelings and activities are now just social media viral trends.
