A road is a nothing space. It takes you to another place, its purpose is always somewhere else, any spot on a road is meaningless for itself. Driving on a road makes you immobile with your attention fixed permanently onto that somewhere else. It’s why we travel, why our cities and towns revolve around roads and transport. The remnants of empire, the somewhere-else people. Anything that gets in our way of going somewhere else becomes roadkill. We never arrive, there’s always somewhere else to be.
