Ideas are everything. In the aftermath of the bushfires, the main question that may not get asked is - is the idea of ‘national park’ the main problem? Turning the landscape into a tourist attraction, or preserved specimen. At the moment we’re turning it into a story about fire, firefighters and climate change. That story just reflects debating positions between human groups, it leaves the landscape out.
