A thought experiment. If a prominent media commentator in last summer’s bushfires had told people in the path of the fires that ‘there’s no fire here, it’s all a beat-up’, I suspect they’d have been charged under some form of obstruction of emergency response law. Why shouldn’t dipshits like Jones be actually charged for statements like this?
