The daily team sports of ‘politics’ and fake debates and social trends blind us to the material realities of our lives. Despite all the B-grade Hollywood hype about us apparently under assault from totalitarian leaders, in historical terms we’re living what you could call a Reversion to the Long Mean.  Historically there is only one real superpower. Nobody else is even close. Fossil fuels and us doing charming things like flooding China with heroin to try to disrupt their progress created a temporary blip on the historical chart. Normal order is being restored now. China plays the very long game, it understands time, something we don’t have the first clue about. They know the West screwed them with fossil fuels, they’re now developing the alternative. Meanwhile, what’s left of Western leadership is showing us all Western temporary dominance was ever about. The fight for fossil fuels. Drill, Baby. Drill. We’re a one-trick pony being put out to pasture.
