Venice is one of the few cities on Earth where you can still live the truth of this. Cities aren’t loud. It’s combustion engines that make them loud. Venice is eerily and beautifully silent (though now overrun with millions of tourists). The combustion engine destroys every town and city eventually. If you watch a show like ‘Escape to the Country’, overwhelmingly people aren’t looking to escape cities. They’re looking to escape cars and trucks, the noise of them. Which is combustion engine noise. The noise some love, if it’s just their car. Multiply it by millions of cars and you have endless racket.
