We’re taught that ‘life’ is this finite thing, between birth and death. And that death is the absence of life. Some people believe there is life after death. (Interestingly, it’s less common to ask - is there life before birth?) My two cents. Life and death are like all binaries, not things but perspectives. That’s where we get it wrong. In reality we’re not either alive or dead, we’re just more or less connected to other things. Death is equivalent to sleep, when we unplug our connections to other things. Dreams allow us almost infinite freedom to experience things, because we’re not restrained by connections. Dreams aren’t movies playing in our heads, they’re our lives freed up from having to compromise with other entities. From this point of view, lucid dreaming *is* what ‘life after death’ means. When we ‘die’, we don’t disappear, we live permanently in dreams. Whether we’re conscious of that depends on how lucidly we live those dreams.
