This guy traces the shift from institutions that build things, which we saw after WW2 in massive ‘nation-building’ efforts. To today, where nothing gets built. Where the main social activity is obstructing change, saying ‘no’ to everything. What he calls a ‘vetocracy’ - the power to veto anything. And sadly, for those whom Left vs Right replaced Protestant vs Catholic as some sort of ordering principle of the universe, the shift happened across the board. The Right oppose everything because it represents high status minorities, who want to be free of regulation. The Left oppose everything (they say) to ‘speak truth to power’, to hold power accountable. Everybody just says no, to everything. That’s the countercultural revolution I post about, the massive shift to kidult society, where adult life became a giant, unending high school. Who says no to everything? Toddlers and adolescents. They have little power to do anything, except refuse things. To say ‘no’. That’s our whole culture now. We build nothing. We say no to everything. That’s our fight for status, we use problems as a stage to fight those status battles on. Not to fix the problems. Kidult culture.
