For nearly all of history, societies have been ruled by kings. It’s the default form of governance for humans. It amazes me that people opposed to the Trumps of the world don’t offer people an alternative king. The secret of Trump’s success is to paint himself as a king-like figure. Meanwhile those who oppose everything he stands for offer nothing but due process, forgetting that it emerged in negotiation between kings and their barons. They think it’s ‘democracy’, but it’s actually the arse-end of monarchy.
