Statistics reveal that collectively we behave in ordered, patterned ways. That’s what ‘we’ is. But we don’t know we’re doing it, we need statistics to reveal those patterns to us. Why I saw ‘we’ is one of our greatest mysteries, that we don’t even see as a mystery. Statistics is good at describing the patterns, but much less good at explaining how or why we create them.
