In the UK, the extreme levels of sacrifice the community had to make for WW2 lasted *15 years*. Rationing didn’t stop until 1954. That’s adult life, identifying a critical threat and acting accordingly, including making enormous sacrifice. Those who refuse to see kidult society can compare and contrast that with what we do for Covid, and climate change. In both of those cases, the piffling inconvenience of having to skip work or school for a few months, or wear a mask or open a window, or drive a different car or put up some windmills, is seen as some horrendous threat to ‘freedoms’ and a wrecking ball through our ‘mental health’. We never leave high school, too pathetically scared to break out of the conformity of ‘what everybody else is doing’ to respond to even the most obvious threats. That’s kidult culture, high school culture. That is literally what the countercultural revolution created.
