Our world is mostly driven by algorithms. Techniques and machines for producing automatic knowledge, from basic arithmetic with pen and paper, through to computers. We wet our pants over artificial intelligence, but intelligence has always been artificial, algorthims go back thousands of years. We have always used tools and machines to do most of our thinking. Even language is a type of algorithm. And yet we still have this bizarre idea that thinking happens in our heads, in our brains. The world is full of knowledge already. Knowledge isn't 'about' the world, it's part of it.
